Subdued

a poem

People move to and fro
Oblivious of the others
Worlds walled off
Screens between them
Distractions of self absorption
I try to track between them
My destination to be reached
Perhaps I live in my own
Oblivious to them too
Noticing only incidental
An accident of navigation
I cannot help but feel it
Our separation
Humanity so splintered
We barely notice more than obstacles
Objects to use and move through
Community lost
Thinking these bricks and electrons
Are our society
A social species
Separated and alone
Surrounded by so many
I can’t figure out how
We are not angrier
