This site has seen a lot of my going back and forth, changing my mind and goals with the regularity of how often one is supposed to change their underwear (Daily, ladies and gentlemen — at least). And here I go again.
I will keep trying and trying and trying. It will be an honest effort of publishing on this site more often — with actual fiction and poetry content!
Annoying, to you, the reader. I understand. It is annoying to try to follow someone who is wishy-washy and changes their pattern with more regularity than they produce viable work. I get that. Thanks for sticking with me as long as you have (or welcome to the party if you are a newbie). Anyway, here’s what’s going on:
Recently, I decided to start a Substack. In a way, it was a thought I had in bringing my work to a platform focused more closely to writing and getting some more control over my own content. WordPress, the current platform this site runs on, does the same thing, albeit less known from a cultural standpoint. Other than it being a blend of social media platform and blogging site, there is little difference between Substack and here.
But I wanted to try Substack. So, yeah…
My audience only a small notch above zero. It is still green; I am still green. Things take time and effort. Consistency, as stated above, is the necessary ingredient in all of it. Expectations for it are low, believe me. My hope is to maybe reach 100 subscribers in total by the end of 2025 — they can all be free. Will that happen? Who knows? First, I need to make a plan and stick to the plan.
Plans can change. This site is the change. Going forward, I am activating the paid subscriber section and then having this site AND my Substack mirror each other. Substack is to take advantage of those who like and prefer that platform; this site will remain for the rest of it.
Most content will continue to be free. Going forward, though, after 6 months, each new piece of fiction and poetry will move behind a paywall, with only occasional special things starting off behind that wall and a few things remaining perma-free. Either way, there won’t be any special content differing between the two locations. (For clarity, everything currently on this site will remain available without any fancy upgrade.)
For the next week, I will work to catch this site up to the few items I have over on Substack. During and after that, normal posts will continue.
Of note, however, I have a second Substack that is for politic, philosophical, and other essays in that vein. That will remain entirely separate from here other than there being a link in the menu bar.
