It took me a few minutes the other day to cool off. It was another “idiot” on the road who made an overly aggressive move that I had to become defensive to avoid any incident. Frankly, I wanted to go and punch the driver. Their impatience became my problem for no other reason than… their impatience. But despite my desire to go off on them, I held myself back. I let the anger dwell there for a minute only to let it go and move on. It wasn’t worth the hassle.
Thinking about it later, it occurred to me: It isn’t the negative thoughts that are the problem. We all think bad things from time to time. It’s the allowing ourselves to act on these impulses that is the problem. We are all impacted in one way or another by another’s bad day or bad attitude. If we take a moment to breathe, we can let them pass without incident. Maybe by us not engaging we avoid not fueling their fire. It’s a thought, but this world needs less anger. Less people acting on their negative thoughts. Less anger and more kindness. Maybe the world will get just a little better then.
