Instinct

a poem

Beasts we are
Clawing through life
Gnashing our teeth on carnal desire
But we think
And know not of this
Of our basic existence
Somehow different
Like it absolves all
A being above savage
While a savage beast still
Perhaps worse
While the claim stands
In opposition
To reality
That blood runs through
Hot with anger
No better are we
Than the animals we are
