Words to Ponder #11

“History books as kids get older are all about facts, they’re all about punching holes in things, in showing how the heroes of the past were all racists and hypocrites.”

Ryan Holiday – from the “Daily Dad” email July 17, 2023

This one strikes me, given how so much of today’s world seems to focus on facts and realism, all while also shunning it, pushing it aside in favor of whims. We blast apart the heroes of the past because of some unsavory factoid that might or might not be a simple product of the times they lived, forgetting that we are also very much products of the times we live.

I do wish to bring back the mystery and magic that some of these stories used to provide. I think society could use a few good heroes to look up to right now.
