Words to Ponder #12

“There is no time in history where the people who were censoring speech were the good guys.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

There are a number of reasons why one might want another person’s speech to be censored. Ultimately, though, it is most often for the reason that one cannot defend their own ideas against that of the people they are trying to censor.

Now this doesn’t necessarily mean that the people being censored are correct, or that the people doing the censoring are wrong… well, mostly. I believe it means that there is at the very least a piece of the argument that is a threat to the stability of their own argument.

My own stance on censorship is that it is neutral in and of itself, however, it is a tool no one is good at using.
