Crumpled Words – a poem

“Crumpled Words”
a poem by Jeremy C Kester

We think words with such power
Only to toss them aside
Unimportant like a lost breath
From years ago
Forgotten and discarded
Why do we give them such weight?
If we but act so careless with them
Changing their meanings without
Artful forms of creative chase
Only with hate in mind
We crumple their meaning
Demanding honors and worship
But they become garbage
Blackened with the soot of hate
When flame hasn’t touched
Meaningless gods
No longer what they once were
Yet words can be powerful again
If only we care to listen
