“Online”
a poem by Jeremy C Kester
I sit against the sound of rumbling quiet
And contemplate the sense of it
Why we crave likes instead of hugs and handshakes
Of the seeming fake gloss of a post
While we feed ourselves glow alone
All the people surrounding us
There. Ready to talk if we dare
Yet we continue to drown
In this shallow pool of likes and shares
Of videos, pictures, and imaginary interactions
Unable to stop ourselves from suffocating
Unable to simply put our feed down
And live.
